Institute establishment

The Nature and Technology Sciences Research Institute (GTMTI) was established on the basis of the existing separate units of VMU: the Environmental Research Centre of the Faculty of Science of VMU, founded in 2000, whose scientists develop research in different clusters of natural sciences; the Energy Security Research Centre, founded in 2009 by VMU together with the Lithuanian Energy Institute; and the research groups of the VMU Botanical Garden, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Informatics and the Academy of Education.

 

The VMU GTMTI (Research Institute of Natural and Technological Sciences) will be established on 12 October 2022 at the VMU Academy campus.

Cooperation and contribution

GTMTI works in collaboration with the University’s faculty researchers and various research networks in Lithuania and worldwide, adopting innovative research methodologies, sharing expertise, consolidating existing international research experience and empowering existing international research infrastructures; initiating and conducting interdisciplinary research based on innovative methodologies of a high international scientific level and with a high impact on the society; providing consultancy services on research. GTMTI contributes to the development of a socially responsive and responsible civil society by sharing research results with society; collaborates with local, national, regional and international social partners to impact on the well-being of society and the state; organises national and international scientific events; engages young researchers in research activities, thus developing the skills and competences needed for research; facilitates the conduct of doctoral research; and initiates and organises postdoctoral fellowships and visits of researchers from other countries.
