On October 3rd, 2025, the final conference of the Erasmus KA2+ project FEMSTEM (2023-1-ES01-KA220-HED-000155347) was held at the University of the Basque Country (Spain). Dr. Karolis Gedvilas, a researcher at Vytautas Magnus University Research Institute of Natural and Technological Sciences, took part at the event. More than 300 students, lecturers and STEM specialists participated in the conference. During the presentations, the need for such projects was emphasized, and female students were encouraged to continue their STEM careers after graduating from university. The role of internships and mentoring by experienced women, professionals in their field, in helping young girls at the beginning of their careers was discussed. Professor and researcher Marta Macho gave a presentation on gender stereotypes in natural, technological and engineering sciences, which exist since primary education. The professor encouraged reflection on whether real progress is being made in breaking these stereotypes and achieving true equality. The Q&A session discussed the challenges women face in their careers, including imposter syndrome and the need to prove that they can do twice as much just because they are women. One of the most valuable pieces of advice for future STEM professionals was to not be afraid, to set limits, to explore and take risks – to create your own path, rather than follow the one expected of you. The FEMSTEM project is implemented by partners from Spain, Greece, Cyprus and Lithuania. Vytautas Magnus University is one of the project partners.
